Albury Doctor Charged Over Child Abuse Material After Police Investigation

1 min read

An Albury-based doctor has been charged following an investigation that uncovered alleged child abuse material on his phone.

In May, officers from the Australian Border Force seized a phone from a 37-year-old man at Melbourne Airport. The device was then referred to the NSW State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad, where detectives reportedly discovered more than 5,000 video and photo files of child abuse material.

The investigation was part of Strike Force Trawler, an ongoing operation focused on combating the online exploitation of children. On Tuesday morning, detectives arrested Gregory John Couch in Albury and charged him with multiple offences, including possessing child abuse material and using a carriage service to access such material.

Following his arrest, Couch was taken to Albury police station and appeared at Albury Local Court. He was refused bail and is scheduled to face court again on August 19.

Authorities emphasized that there is no evidence to suggest any wrongdoing against the doctor’s patients.
