In the run-up to Women’s Day, the first-ever alumni reunion of Agrani schools and colleges took place in Sydney on March 2 at the picturesque conference venue of Holiday Inn Warwick Farm.
From eleven o’clock in the morning, Agrani girls, dressed in sweet shades of pastel colors, began to appear from various parts of Australia. Many people came from Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane, Tasmania.
Agrani’s first reunion festival started with the school bell at exactly twelve noon. After the national anthems of Bangladesh and Australia, presenters Souchna Chowdhury and Srabanti Kazi welcomed everyone. A minute’s silence was observed for the victims of the Baily Road accident and for the past teachers, students and staff of Agrani.
The memory of the leading school Dr. Jasmin Shafiq- Her memory evokes the image of Agrani before and after the liberation war. In a recorded video message, Agrani’s two former teachers – Noorun Nahar and Ruby Akram – congratulated and remembered the girls of Agrani.
The girls of Agrani, led by Amiya Matin, sang a few melodious songs. Artist Amiya Matin, Shafinaz Amin and Dr. Mafrauha Alam performed solo music, where Sohail Khan on guitar, Ziaul Islam Tamal on tabla and octopad and Rafsan Zaman on keyboard.
Mohsina Parveen recited the poetry of Jibanand Das. Syeda Mah-i-Munir gave a powerful dance performance to the song “Ami Chitrangada” from Rabindranath Tagore’s classic lyrical drama on the special theme of women empowerment – Empower, connect and share.
The drama “Amra Agraniyan” was a good release on screen which was highly enjoyed by the audience. Drama script, direction, camera, cinematography, editing by Mafrauha Alam.
The drama stars Syeda Sultana, Naira Kaysi, Tanima Ali, Shukti Sarita and Syeda Mah-e-Munir.
In addition, Dr. Jasmine Shafiq was awarded for special contribution to education and women’s empowerment, and Agrani girls from different states are given certificate of appreciation.
