AFP Issues Warning as Drunken Passengers Surge at Darwin Airport

1 min read

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) are urging travelers in Darwin to exercise restraint as the city’s airport faces a troubling rise in passengers too intoxicated to fly. Both the AFP and Darwin International Airport have reported an uptick in incidents involving “obnoxious, abusive” drunk passengers.

In the past year alone, AFP officers have turned away 30 intoxicated travelers at the gate and responded to calls to remove six others from planes. Rob Porter, executive general manager of the Airport Development Group, which operates Darwin Airport, expressed concern that the upcoming Easter holidays and peak tourism season could exacerbate the situation.

As travel numbers increase, the AFP is reminding all passengers to act responsibly to ensure a safe and pleasant experience for everyone at the airport.
