An army operation in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province killed 33 Afghan militants, the army’s public relations office confirmed on Friday. The clash occurred near the Sambaza border crossing in Zhob district after intelligence indicated an infiltration by an Afghan terrorist group.

Troops opened fire when they detected the group, leading to hours of firefights. By the end of the engagement, 33 infiltrators lay dead and there were no reported casualties among security forces.

According to the armed forces press office, the infiltrators were Afghan nationals but were linked to the Tehreek e Taliban Pakistan faction and had come to expand the group’s activities in Balochistan. Authorities recovered a substantial cache of arms, ammunition and explosives.

Security sources said the operation is ongoing at the site. The border region has long seen fighting and incursions as militants seek to extend influence.
