The Australia Bangladesh Business Council (ABBC) brought together entrepreneurs, professionals and community leaders for a spectacular Iftar and Dinner at Le Montage in Lilyfield, Sydney. The event welcomed guests from across the Bangladeshi community as well as attendees from several other countries, creating an evening rich in culture, connection and celebration.
The program began with guest reception and registration, followed by a heartfelt Qur’an recitation by Abrar Jawad, which set a serene and spiritual Ramadan atmosphere. In his welcome address, ABBC Chairperson Fayez Dewan emphasised the importance of unity and collaboration among Bangladeshi business owners in Australia. He noted that gatherings like this play a vital role in strengthening business ties between Australia and Bangladesh.
Special guest Sheikh Abdulkarim Abdullah Newman spoke about the values of Ramadan and the significance of social bonds, before leading a prayer for the community. After Maghrib prayers, guests enjoyed Iftar and a festive dinner.
During the dinner session, Ashik Ahmed, co‑founder of Deputy, highlighted emerging opportunities for Bangladeshi entrepreneurs in Australia. The event was coordinated by ABBC Treasurer Syed Mahbub Murshed (Bappi) and hosted by Dr Tanvir Uddin, ensuring a smooth and engaging evening.
ICFAL Shariah Board adviser Yusuf Tang also addressed the audience, discussing the growing potential of Islamic finance in Australia. Floral tributes were presented to Sheikh Abdulkarim Abdullah Newman, Ashik Ahmed and Dr Parvez Shah in recognition of their contributions.
The night concluded with a lively networking session, where business owners and professionals exchanged ideas and explored future collaborations. Over the years, ABBC’s annual Iftar has become one of the most significant and anticipated gatherings for Bangladeshi business leaders in Australia.
