A teenager accused of driving a stolen vehicle into a pedestrian in Melbourne’s CBD has told the Children’s Court he intends to plead guilty, following a dramatic incident near Flinders Street Station that unfolded amid the Melbourne Marathon earlier this month.

The alleged crash occurred on October 11 when witnesses reported chaotic scenes as a speeding vehicle was driven erratically through the city streets. The incident happened near the intersection of Flinders Street and Elizabeth Street, an area crowded with spectators and participants as thousands took part in the Melbourne Marathon.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after a 57-year-old woman was struck by the vehicle. Authorities confirmed she was transported to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The 16-year-old boy accused of being behind the wheel appeared before the Children’s Court via video link on Monday. During the hearing, the teenager indicated his intention to plead guilty to charges relating to the incident.
The alleged crash sparked significant concern due to its proximity to one of Melbourne’s largest annual sporting events, with witnesses describing confusion and panic as the vehicle moved through busy city streets before the collision.
The case remains before the court as legal proceedings continue, while investigators examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft of the vehicle and the events leading up to the crash.
