At least 13 people, including a child, have been killed in a Ukrainian drone strike on the Russian republic of Tatarstan, according to Russian officials. Another 75 people were injured in what is now one of the deadliest single attacks on Russian territory since Moscow launched its full‑scale invasion of Ukraine.
The strike hit Nizhnekamsk, a major industrial city more than 1,100km from the Ukrainian border, underscoring Kyiv’s expanding long‑range drone capabilities. Ukraine’s Armed Forces confirmed that the Tanevo oil refinery was targeted, while Ukrainian defence manufacturer FirePoint said its FP‑1 drones were used in the operation.
Local sources reported that the attack lasted several hours overnight and into the morning. The same refinery complex was previously struck on 12 June.
