A remorseful Labuts broke down in court as she admitted she knew her actions were wrong when she stole thousands of dollars from her employer hoping a gambling windfall would allow her to pay it all back. “I was praying for a big win to return it all back,” she said tearfully, before acknowledging the harsh truth: “The house always wins, so it never eventuated.”
Labuts told the court she was “so incredibly sorry,” confessing she had “destroyed the trust [my employer] put in me.” Despite the significant amount stolen, she has only repaid a fraction $3,500 while the IGA network recovered a further $9,000 by withholding her entitlements.
Her emotional apology underscored the depth of the damage caused, both financially and personally, as she faces the consequences of a decision she now says she deeply regrets.
