Kathy Griffin Says Jimmy Fallon Has ‘Banned’ Her, Criticises Show for Platforming Conor McGregor

Comedian and actress Kathy Griffin has publicly addressed her long absence from television talk shows, claiming she has effectively been banned from The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. In a video posted to Instagram, the 65‑year‑old said Fallon’s team considers her “too controversial” despite never formally informing her of any ban.

Griffin said she has not appeared on Fallon’s program since its early days when it aired at 12:30am. “I guess I’m banned from the Fallon show, or inappropriate, or too controversial,” she said, adding that talk shows rarely tell performers they are unwelcome. “They just can’t seem to find room for you.”

The comedian known for her outspoken style and past clashes with Hollywood and political figures joked that she is “banned from most of them,” telling followers, “You’re welcome, America and Indonesia.”

Griffin also criticised Fallon’s decision to host former UFC champion Conor McGregor, who has faced legal scrutiny over sexual‑assault allegations. She argued that giving McGregor a high‑profile platform sends a harmful message.

“I think the Fallon folks made a mistake by having Conor McGregor on,” Griffin said. “I think it sends yet another message to women and marginalised folks everywhere we’re not equal and you can do anything to us, and the perpetrators are still going to be out there being glorified.”

Her comments have reignited debate about who major talk shows choose to elevate, and how those choices reflect broader cultural attitudes toward accountability, celebrity and misconduct.
