Russian Strikes Kill Four in Kharkiv as Civilian Casualties Continue to Rise

2 min read

Russian attacks on Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region killed four people and wounded ten others early Tuesday, according to regional officials. Kharkiv governor Oleg Synegubov said the city of Chuhuiv was hit overnight, leaving four civilians dead including a 22‑year‑old woman and sparking fires that damaged at least 18 vehicles. Residential buildings also suffered shattered windows and blown‑out facades from the blasts.

In Kharkiv city itself, mayor Igor Terekhov reported that ten people were injured in separate strikes.

The attacks come amid a sharp escalation in daily Russian bombardments targeting Ukrainian cities, often striking civilian areas. Ukraine has responded with long‑range drone strikes deeper inside Russian territory, saying its operations focus on military and energy infrastructure.

The human toll of the war continues to mount. According to a UN estimate published in April, at least 15,850 civilians have been killed in Ukrainian‑controlled areas since Russia launched its full‑scale invasion in February 2022. More than 2,800 civilians have died in Russian‑occupied zones, and over 44,800 people have been wounded across both territories.

As the conflict grinds on into its fifth year, Kharkiv remains one of the most heavily targeted regions and one of the starkest reminders of the war’s relentless impact on ordinary Ukrainians.
