Married at First Sight relationship expert Mel Schilling has died at the age of 54 following a battle with cancer. Her husband, Gareth Brisbane, confirmed the heartbreaking news in an emotional social media post on Tuesday night.
Brisbane wrote that in her final moments, when he believed cancer had taken her ability to speak, Mel summoned the strength to whisper a final message to him and their daughter, Maddie a moment he said would stay with him forever.
“It took all of her remaining strength, and that gesture summed up our wee Melsie perfectly. Even then, her only thought was for Maddie and me,” he shared.
Schilling was first diagnosed with colon cancer in December 2023. In March this year, she revealed that the disease had become terminal after spreading to the left side of her brain.
Her death has prompted an outpouring of grief from fans and colleagues across the entertainment world. Schilling, known for her warmth, insight and sharp wit on Married at First Sight, became one of the franchise’s most recognisable and beloved figures.
