Bangladesh Midfielder Cuba Mitchell Returns to England, Joins Gloucester City AFC

Bangladesh international midfielder Cuba Mitchell has completed a move back to English football, signing with seventh‑tier side Gloucester City AFC for the remainder of the season.

The 20‑year‑old had joined Bashundhara Kings in July last year on a three‑year deal, but after struggling to adapt to Bangladesh’s climate and overall conditions, he mutually terminated his contract on 3 January and returned home to England.

A former youth player at Sunderland and Birmingham City, Mitchell said the move to Gloucester represents an important step in his senior career.

“I’m really happy and over the moon to finally get it over the line,” he told the club’s media. “I’m excited to show what I can do and add to how well the team is already doing.”

He said the opportunity arose shortly after he returned from Bangladesh.
“Coming back from playing abroad, my agent mentioned the opportunity. Seeing how well they’re doing and the project they’ve got going really interested and excited me.”

Mitchell reflected on the experience he has already gained across multiple environments.
“I got really great experiences from both Birmingham and Sunderland. I also gained first‑team experience abroad and made my international debut, which gave me a lot of experience. I’m excited for this next move.”

Born to a Jamaican father and Bangladeshi mother, Mitchell made his senior debut for Bangladesh against Nepal last November. He also featured in the team’s historic win over India Bangladesh’s first victory over their rivals in 22 years.
