Maddison Levi Turns Down NRLW Cameo, Commits to Rugby Sevens in Pursuit of Olympic Redemption

2 min read

Australian rugby sevens star Maddison Levi says choosing not to pursue an NRLW cameo alongside her sister Teagan was the only responsible decision, admitting that making the switch now would have been “selfish” after signing a new two‑year deal with Rugby Australia.

The Levi sisters, still fuelled by the heartbreak of Australia’s Olympic campaign in Paris, have committed to another tilt at gold remaining in the national sevens program until at least the end of 2028. Their decision shuts the door, for now, on a much‑anticipated cross‑code appearance that had been widely reported as imminent.

For months, speculation swirled that Rugby Australia had approved negotiations for a one‑off NRLW cameo this season. It would not have been the first time the pair explored a switch: RA previously rejected a similar request at the end of 2024.

Maddison, 23, has long been one of Australia’s most versatile athletes. Before becoming a sevens powerhouse, she played AFLW for the Gold Coast Suns, appearing in eight games in 2021. Teagan, 22, has also been open about her interest in testing herself in rugby league.

But with another Olympic cycle underway and unfinished business driving them the sisters have chosen to stay the course.
