Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi was laid to eternal rest amid the tears of hundreds of thousands. He was buried beside the grave of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, a place of deep symbolic significance. But even in the heavy atmosphere of grief, Shahbagh transformed into a powerful centre of protest demanding justice for Hadi.
The scenes began unfolding from Saturday afternoon (20 December), shortly after the burial. From early morning, people from Dhaka and across the country gathered at the South Plaza of the National Parliament and along Manik Mia Avenue. Before noon, the entire area was overflowing with mourners.
At around 2:30pm, Hadi’s janaza was held at the South Plaza, led by his elder brother Abu Bakar Siddiq.
After the funeral prayer, Hadi’s body was taken to Dhaka University, where he was buried at 3:20pm beside the tomb of Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Shahbagh Flooded With Protesters
Following the burial, an even larger wave of people surged into Shahbagh. Many were unable to enter the inner area due to police barricades, yet thousands remained in the Shahbagh square, chanting slogans demanding justice for Shaheed Hadi. The entire area and its surroundings echoed with calls for accountability and truth.
