Massive Crowds Gather at Manik Mia Avenue for Janaza of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi

2 min read

Thousands of people poured onto Manik Mia Avenue near the National Parliament from early morning to attend the janaza of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi. One procession after another entered the avenue chanting slogans, and within moments the entire area was filled with students, activists, and ordinary citizens.

After hours of waiting, security forces allowed the crowd to enter the Parliament premises around 10:30am. Passing through eight archway gates imported from China, thousands of people walked in long lines toward the South Plaza, where leaders and activists from various political parties, along with members of the public, had already gathered.

The janaza is scheduled to take place at 2pm on Saturday (20 December) at the South Plaza of the National Parliament. From early morning, people from different parts of Dhaka began arriving in processions, filling the Parliament grounds in anticipation.

“A man like Hadi is born once in a thousand years”

Many in the crowd said that waiting two or three hours was an honour for someone like Hadi. Some said they would wait the entire day if needed. Many expressed deep sorrow, saying they had hoped Hadi would recover and join the election campaign — a moment they will now never witness.
