England pacer Jofra Archer delivered another inconsistent over against Australia, with Mitchell Starc carefully managing the strike and showing little faith in new batter Scott Boland.
Archer began with a back-of-length delivery that Starc shaped to play at before pulling away. Starc then declined a single on the leg side, seemingly intent on shielding Boland.
Archer’s wayward line continued, spraying one down the leg side that forced Steve Smith into a full-length dive to prevent four byes. A rare improvement followed, as Archer found a better length and beat Starc’s outside edge.
Starc eventually called Boland through for a single, leaving him one ball to face. Archer, however, failed to capitalize, sending down a short and wide delivery that Boland left comfortably.
The over summed up Archer’s struggles too loose, too inconsistent, and unable to pressure the tail. Analysts noted he must tighten his line and length to force Boland into play if England are to break through.
