Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has married his longtime partner Jodie Hayden in an intimate ceremony at The Lodge in Canberra on Saturday, attended by close family and friends.

Albanese, 62, proposed to Hayden on Valentine’s Day last year, though the wedding date and arrangements were kept strictly secret until now.

According to Reuters, Albanese is the first sitting Australian Prime Minister to marry while in office. Speaking after the ceremony, he said: “In front of our family and friends, we shared our deep love for one another.”

Hayden has been a visible presence alongside Albanese at public events in recent years, including during the 2022 election campaign, when his Labor Party won a sweeping victory.

For the wedding, Hayden wore a gown designed by Sydney label Romance Was Born, while Albanese donned a suit by MJ Bale. Their dog Toto played a special role as the ring bearer. Guests were served beer in custom cans to mark the occasion.

The newlyweds plan to spend their honeymoon in Australia from Monday through Friday.
