Rishad’s Blazing Cameo Shatters Shakib-Mashrafe Record in Mirpur

1 min read

On a tricky Mirpur pitch where Bangladesh’s top and middle order faltered, young leg-spinner Rishad Hossain stole the spotlight with a whirlwind knock from No. 9. He smashed 39 not out off just 14 balls, laced with three fours and three sixes, finishing with a staggering strike rate of nearly 278 , the highest ever by a Bangladeshi in ODIs (minimum 10 balls faced).

The record had long belonged to Mashrafe Mortaza and Shakib Al Hasan, who both struck at 275 in their respective explosive innings. But Rishad’s late blitz has now pushed him past two of Bangladesh’s greats.

His innings came at a crucial moment. With the score at just 163 in the 46th over after Nurul Hasan’s dismissal, even 200 looked out of reach. Rishad’s fearless hitting, combined with Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s unbeaten 32 off 58 balls, lifted Bangladesh to a competitive total.

Beyond rescuing the team, Rishad’s cameo carved out a historic milestone in Bangladesh cricket , a rare example of lower-order batting brilliance that turned the tide and set a new benchmark for finishing power.
