A devastating fire has reduced one of New South Wales’ most iconic wedding venues to ruins, with emergency crews battling through the night to contain the inferno.
The blaze broke out around 7 p.m. on Friday at Loxley on Bellbird Hill in Kurrajong Hills, prompting a massive response from more than 80 firefighters and 25 trucks. Crews worked for hours to stop the flames from spreading to nearby buildings and bushland. The age of the 1864-built property also posed an asbestos exposure risk, adding to the challenges.
No events were underway at the time, but three staff members were on site. One of them the owner’s son sustained minor burns while trying to extinguish the flames and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Despite the combined efforts of the Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW, the venue’s main building was completely destroyed, with surrounding structures also damaged. Firefighters remained on scene into Saturday morning to monitor hotspots.
Known for hosting weddings, conferences, and special events for more than a century, Loxley’s loss marks a significant blow to the Hawkesbury community. Investigators are examining the site, though the fire is not being treated as suspicious. Officials noted that a large pool and two water tanks on the property provided vital resources for crews during the operation.
