Italy has officially qualified for the men’s T20 Cricket World Cup for the first time, securing their spot in the 2026 tournament set to be held in Sri Lanka and India. Led by former Australian Test batsman Joe Burns, Italy finished second in the European qualifiers, behind the Netherlands.
Despite losing their final match to the Netherlands by nine wickets, Italy edged out Jersey on net run rate to claim the second qualifying position. This achievement marks a significant milestone for Italian cricket as they make their debut on the global stage.
Earlier in the day, Scotland’s hopes of participating in a fifth consecutive T20 World Cup were dashed after a loss to Jersey, ending their campaign.
With Italy’s qualification, fifteen of the twenty spots for the 2026 T20 World Cup have now been filled, leaving only five more places to be decided.
