NSW Police to Investigate Injury of Woman During Protest Arrest

An investigation is set to begin into how a 35-year-old woman was injured during her arrest at a pro-Palestinian protest, after NSW Police classified the incident as a critical one.

Hannah Thomas, who is also a former candidate for the seat of Grayndler in the 2025 federal election, suffered serious injuries to her right eye on June 27 during the arrest in south-west Sydney.

Approximately 60 people were protesting outside a manufacturing facility in Belmore during the unauthorized demonstration, according to NSW Police. The protesters allege the facility, SEC Plating, supplies components used in jets operated by the Israel Defence Force. The company has denied these claims.

NSW Police stated that after issuing two move-on directions to the crowd, including Ms. Thomas, she was subsequently arrested for allegedly failing to comply. The incident has prompted a formal inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her injuries.
