Bangladesh capitulated meekly on the fourth morning of the second Test in Colombo, losing by an innings and 78 runs as Sri Lanka completed the victory within just 30 minutes of play.
Prabath Jayasuriya, who had taken only one wicket in the first three innings of the series, delivered a decisive spell, finishing with 5 for 56. His morning burst uprooted Litton Das, Naeem Hasan, and Taijul Islam, leaving Bangladesh in disarray.
Litton, who had been Bangladesh’s hope for a fightback, fell early in the day, edging Jayasuriya for 14. Naeem was then stumped for 5, and Taijul succumbed to a return catch, sealing Jayasuriya’s five-wicket haul.
The match was effectively ended when Tharindu Ratnayake trapped Ebadot Hossain lbw for 6, with Bangladesh folding for 133 in their second innings. Ebadot reviewed unsuccessfully after being beaten while attempting a forward defence.
Earlier, Bangladesh’s first innings total was 247, while Sri Lanka posted a commanding 458. Needing 96 runs to avoid an innings defeat, Bangladesh’s batsmen struggled on a spin-friendly pitch, with Mushfiqur Rahim’s 26 being the top score. The hosts sealed the game with ease, leaving Bangladesh with a series loss.
