A Dhaka court has ordered the detention of actor Siddiqur Rahman in connection with an attempted murder case related to the July mass uprising. Judge Jakir Hossain of the Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court issued the order on Wednesday, following a petition from the investigation officer of the case.
Siddiqur Rahman was previously placed on a seven-day remand on April 30 in relation to the same case.
The incident occurred on April 29 when a group claiming to be members of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal assaulted the actor while he was passing through Bailey Road. Following the attack, Siddiq was first taken to Ramna Police Station and later transferred to Gulshan Police Station.
According to the case statement, on July 19 of last year, during the anti-discrimination movement, shots were fired at protesters in front of Confidence Tower in Shahjadpur, Gulshan. A van driver named Jabbar Ali Hawlader was seriously injured in the incident, which has been linked to the ongoing protests.
The court’s decision marks a significant development in the case, which is part of a broader investigation into violence during the protests.
