Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman Returns After Official Visit to Qatar

Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman returned to Bangladesh today after completing an official visit to Qatar. During his stay, the army chief engaged in a series of courtesy meetings and discussions with senior civil and military officials, including Qatar’s deputy prime minister, the minister of state for Defence Affairs, the minister of state for Interior Affairs, the chief of staff of the Qatar Armed Forces, and the deputy commander of the Internal Security Forces, known as Lekhwiya.

On Saturday, the army chief paid a courtesy call on Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, president of the Qatar Olympic Committee. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the Olympic Committees of both countries, supporting sports-related training initiatives, and enhancing bilateral relations. They also discussed the possibility of establishing an Olympic Village in Bangladesh, which could serve as a major boost for sports development in the country.

On Sunday, General Waker-Uz-Zaman held separate meetings with several key officials. He discussed ways to enhance defense cooperation, develop the defense industry, and explore avenues for the exchange of skilled manpower. Additionally, he met with Lieutenant General Jassim bin Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Mannai, chief of staff of the Qatar Armed Forces, to further strengthen military ties.

The visit underscores the growing strategic and diplomatic relationship between Bangladesh and Qatar, focusing on mutual cooperation in defense, sports, and bilateral development initiatives. The Bangladesh army chief’s return marks the conclusion of a successful and productive diplomatic mission aimed at building stronger ties between the two nations.
