Liton Das is currently leading Bangladesh’s short-format cricket team and will continue to do so until the 2026 T20 World Cup. Today, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the squad for the upcoming T20 series against the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan.

Last year, the Bangladesh team was captained across all three formats by Nazmul Hossain Shanto. However, in January this year, he announced his departure from T20 captaincy. Due to injury, Shanto did not participate in the recent series against the West Indies.

In his absence, Liton Das took charge and led Bangladesh to a clean sweep in the three-match series against the Caribbean team. Recently, discussions about making Liton Das the permanent captain of the short-format team have been ongoing. T20 star Tashkin Ahmed was also in the conversation but was unable to return to the field due to a groin injury.

Now, Liton Das has officially returned as the full-time captain. Bangladesh is gearing up for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The BCB is already planning its strategies and preparations for the tournament.
