In a separate but equally urgent situation, authorities in Victoria’s central-west are advising residents to prepare for evacuation as fire crews lost control of a planned burn near Daylesford. The fire, which initially started as a controlled burn on Thursday, was declared a bushfire on Friday afternoon, escalating concerns in the community.
A “Watch and Act” warning was issued for affected areas, including Sailors Hill, Sailors Falls, and Musk Vale. As of Saturday, the fire had already burned through 30 hectares and was still not under control, prompting urgent advisories for residents in its path to prepare to leave their homes.
More than 100 personnel, including firefighting aircraft and ground crews, have been deployed to combat the blaze. The bushfire is currently moving from Black Jack Track southeast toward Sailors Hill, intensifying the urgency for residents in the area to take precautionary measures.
In response to the situation, authorities are coordinating efforts to ensure the safety of residents and to contain the fire. “We are closely monitoring the situation and are prepared to support those in the fire’s path,” officials stated.
As the situation develops, the community remains on high alert, hoping for a swift resolution to the fire while also reflecting on the ongoing tragedy in the Dominican Republic, where families are still awaiting closure after the nightclub disaster.
