Liberal MP’s Stolen Car Linked to Ram Raid on Local Bottle Shop

A Western Australia Liberal MP has found herself at the center of a crime spree after her car was stolen while she was on the campaign trail, only to be later utilized in a brazen ram raid on a local bottle shop.

Merome Beard, the North West Central MP, reported that her vehicle was taken after she parked it outside Carnarvon, located 900 kilometers north of Perth, to post campaign signs late Sunday evening. “I put one up and thought, that’ll do. I’m tired,” she shared.

In the early hours of Monday, the stolen sedan was driven through the roller doors of the bottle shop, resulting in significant damage. The vehicle was later abandoned in nearby bushland. In the theft, Beard lost her bag, wallet, computer, and how-to-vote cards. “Police are still picking bits and pieces up from all around the town,” she noted. “I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night.”

Authorities have taken three individuals into custody as part of their investigation, but no charges have yet been filed. Carnarvon detectives are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.

Local business owner Nathan Condo, whose shop was targeted in the ram raid, reported approximately $500 worth of stock stolen, including high-end whisky, cigarettes, and soft drinks. The damage from the incident, which included two shattered glass doors, is expected to total around $30,000.

Residents of Carnarvon have long voiced concerns regarding rising crime rates, prompting both major political parties to propose measures aimed at increasing police resources and expediting trial processes if they are elected. Condo argued that the strict liquor restrictions imposed by the government in 2023, intended to combat escalating crime, are failing to deliver the desired results.
