Boby Chemmanur, a prominent businessman from Kerala, was arrested by Kochi police on Wednesday following a sexual harassment complaint filed by actress Honey Rose. Chemmanur was taken into custody for questioning at his estate in Wayanad, with a Special Investigation Team (SIT) assigned to probe the allegations.
According to reports, Honey Rose filed her complaint with the Ernakulam Central Police on January 7, claiming that Chemmanur made obscene gestures and sexually suggestive comments during the opening of his jewelry store in Kannur. She also accused him and 30 others of online harassment, alleging they flooded her social media with sexist remarks.
Chemmanur, known for his flamboyant personality, has denied the allegations, asserting he had no “ill intentions.” Honey Rose later detailed the incident on social media, revealing it occurred in August last year when she was invited to inaugurate his showroom. She refrained from speaking out at the time to avoid disrupting the event.
In her post, she stated her readiness to confront anyone who insults her based on her appearance, emphasizing the need for restraint in comments and gestures. Following her allegations, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) condemned the social media attacks against her and offered support.
The Kerala High Court recently ruled that comments on a woman’s body can constitute sexual harassment, reinforcing the seriousness of such allegations.
