Brightening the Holidays: How Two Cousins Revolutionized Christmas Light Hunting

2 min read

Co-founders Lachlan Kennedy and his cousin Chris turned their childhood love for festive Christmas lights into a brilliant idea. Inspired by their memories of visiting “Chrissy” lights, they launched the Christmas Light Search directory in Melbourne in 2008, starting with just 40 displays. Initially, they manually added the best lights by driving around, but the project quickly gained popularity, expanding nationwide as people began submitting their own displays.

Kennedy reflects on the journey, saying, “Once the website got going after a few years, it became apparent that we had created a really useful platform for homeowners to promote their displays, motivating us to keep it going ever since.”

As the festive season unfolds, Brisbane is already aglow with joyful displays. However, finding the most elaborate and festive homes can be challenging without knowing where to look.

Thanks to the Christmas Light Search website, the process is now much simpler. The duo has curated an interactive map that allows users to easily find and explore the best holiday light displays in their neighborhoods, ensuring no one has to drive around aimlessly. This innovative platform has transformed the way people experience holiday lights, making it easier and more enjoyable to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.
