To recognise the efforts made by journalists globally and to fortify relations between the Russian and Bangladeshi media communities, the Russian House in Dhaka observed the International Day of Journalists’ Solidarity.
P. Dvoychenkov, the director of the Russian House in Dhaka, emphasised the day’s importance in his welcome speech.
“Every year on this important occasion, we organise a press conference with representatives of the Bangladeshi media. The Russian House deeply appreciates your support in promoting our activities through your platforms,” he said.
Dvoychenkov highlighted the challenges journalists face globally and said, “We recognise the risks, pressures, and sacrifices you endure for the sake of your profession. We stand in solidarity with you, advocating for your safety, freedom, and the right to work without fear or preference.”
He reiterated the Russian House’s commitment to fostering a free and dynamic media landscape worldwide.
Open dialogue and the promotion of mutual understanding are prerequisites in today’s interconnected world, Dvoychenkov said, recounting the organisation’s efforts to promote cultural exchange.
Every year, the Russian House facilitates the participation of Bangladeshi citizens in the New Generation programme, offering short-term study visits to Russia, he shared.
In October and November 2023, seven media representatives participated in two visits under this programme.
Additionally, ten journalists took part in the World Youth Festival held in March 2024 and the journalists at the meeting expressed their gratitude for the opportunities provided. “The New Generation programme has been invaluable for our professional growth,” said one attendee.
The event concluded with a screening of the Russian family comedy film Cheburashka, directed by Dmitry Dyachenko. The film marks the return of a beloved character to the big screen, offering a blend of humor, kindness, and warmth.
Attendees praised its vibrant landscapes and memorable melodies, noting that it underscores the importance of friendship and mutual assistance. More than 50 media representatives from television channels, print and online outlets attended the programme.
Director Dvoychenkov engaged with journalists, answering questions about the Russian House’s activities and expressing his heartfelt appreciation for their participation.
