In Sydney’s south, a pram rolled onto train tracks on Sunday, killing a father and a toddler.
At approximately 12:25 p.m., there were reports of a pram carrying two twin girls rolling off the platform into the path of an approaching train, prompting emergency services to be dispatched to Carlton Railway Station.
After witnesses called triple-0, police arrived on the scene two to three minutes later and managed to apprehend one of the twins.
Sadly, a 40-year-old man attempting to save his daughters as well as a 2-year-old girl perished at the scene.
“Emergency services responded quickly and saw the pram under the train and could hear crying coming from underneath the train,” said Superintendent Paul Dunstan from the St George Police Area Command.
The second two-year-old girl and her 39-year-old mother were not injured and were taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition.
Superintendent Dunstan described the father’s acts of trying to save his children’s lives as “incredibly brave and heroic”.
