4 thousand 213 children in Pakistan experienced sexual abuse in the entire year of 2023; it is to an average of 11 children every day. There are boys and girls among these kids.
Pakistan’s national human rights organization National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) published a report called ‘Cruel Numbers 2023’ on Friday. Referring to this information, the report said that last year child abuse occurred in four provinces of the country – Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Baluchistan and three Union Territories – Islamabad, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan. But most happened in Punjab province.
According to NCHR data, 75 percent of the 4,213 child abuse cases occurred in Pakistan’s most populous province, Punjab. Besides Sindh, 13 percent of Sindh, 7 percent in Islamabad, 3 percent in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 2 percent in Baluchistan, 2 percent in Azad Kashmir and 2 percent in Gilgit Baltistan.
The proportional rate of abused girls and boys is also quite close. According to the NCHR report, out of 4,213 abused children, 2,251 girls (53 percent) and 1,962 boys (47 percent).
Victims include boys and girls, adolescents and minors as well as children aged 5 years and below. In most cases, relatives, family members, strangers have become the perpetrators.
