The national election campaign accelerated across the country on Friday, with political leaders holding roadshows, rallies and prayer‑based gatherings to encourage voters to support their respective symbols in the upcoming parliamentary polls.
BNP Standing Committee member and party‑nominated candidate for Cox’s Bazar‑1, Salahuddin Ahmed, led a roadshow in Uttar Manikpur village under Surajpur–Manikpur Union in Chakaria Upazila. Addressing supporters, he said, “Those who once supported India have fled there. Another group acts as a pawn of foreign powers, creating confusion in Bangladesh’s politics. We are the force of Bangladesh, standing with the Bangladeshi people. Our slogan is ‘Bangladesh First.’”
He added that democracy had been restored and must now be strengthened so that “every citizen feels like an owner of the state.” He urged voters to cast their ballots freely and independently on 12 February.
In Dhaka, BNP‑nominated candidate for Dhaka‑8 and Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas continued his campaign by speaking at the inauguration of a friendly football match in Arambagh. He said that if BNP forms the next government, it will prioritise sports development, expand grassroots initiatives and help young people return to a healthy and positive lifestyle through athletic participation. Abbas criticised previous governments for failing to support the sports sector, leaving it in a weakened condition.
Meanwhile, Mamunul Haque, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer and 10‑party alliance candidate for Dhaka‑13, began his second day of campaigning in Mohammadpur. After Friday prayers, his team distributed election leaflets to worshippers.
During his sermon, he cited Quranic verses, saying that those who seek leadership positions are not aided by Allah, while those who accept responsibility without seeking it receive divine support.
