The 30th edition of the Dhaka International Trade Fair opens today, January 3, at its permanent venue in Purbachal. The event will be inaugurated at 10:30am at the Bangladesh China Friendship Exhibition Center in Sector 4 of Rupganj, Narayanganj.

The fair was originally scheduled to begin on January 1, but the government declared three days of national mourning following the death of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia. As a result, the opening date was shifted to January 3.

As the country’s largest trade exhibition, the fair showcases a wide range of local and international products. Organized jointly by the Ministry of Commerce and the Export Promotion Bureau, this year’s event features participation from Bangladesh and several other nations. Products from India, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Nepal and more are expected to draw crowds, as they do every year.

According to the layout plan, 324 pavilions, stalls and restaurants have been allocated across various categories, including local manufacturers, exporters, general businesses and foreign companies.

This year’s fair has banned polythene bags and single use plastics. As an eco friendly alternative, the Ministry of Textiles and Jute will offer reusable shopping bags at reduced prices. To ease travel for visitors, more than 200 dedicated BRTC shuttle buses will run daily from 8am, departing from Kuril Bishwa Road, Farmgate, Narayanganj and Narsingdi.

The Dhaka International Trade Fair has traditionally begun on the first day of the year since 1995. In 2022, it moved permanently to the Purbachal exhibition center, where it is being held for the fifth time. Preparations for this year’s event are nearly complete.
