At least 26 people, including several women, were injured on Sunday during a violent clash between two groups in Charachithulia village of Shahjadpur upazila in Sirajganj.
Police confirmed that 17 of the injured were taken to Pabna General Hospital and several private clinics for treatment.
Shahjadpur Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge Saiful Islam said the confrontation erupted between the Fakir group and the Sarkar group after a dispute involving two children.
Dispute Between Two Boys Sparks Wider Violence
The tension began on Saturday night when two boys, Nirab and Shimul, got into an argument during an Islamic sermon in the village. The quarrel escalated into a scuffle, heightening tensions between their families and supporters.
By Sunday morning, the situation spiralled into a full‑scale clash between supporters of Ziarul Fakir and Mahfuz Sarkar.
Weapons Used, Houses Vandalised
Both sides reportedly used local weapons, threw bricks and stones, and vandalised homes. The clash continued for several hours, with repeated chases and counter‑chases, causing widespread panic among villagers.
At least 10 houses were vandalised and looted during the violence.
Police Restore Order
Police rushed to the scene and eventually brought the situation under control. Additional forces have since been deployed, and patrols have been intensified to prevent further unrest.
OC Saiful Islam said legal action would be taken if any formal complaint is filed, adding that “the situation is now calm.”
